Mokume-gane, or "wood-eye metal," is a labor intensive an old world Japanese metal smithing technique similar to Damascus steel.
It involves layering different colored metals together then using heat and pressure to cause the metals to fuse together.
Important:
- These blanks are already after melting in the furnace. Secondary heating for melting and forging are not allowed. Only cold working and heating to reveal the finish color of your piece (250-300 degrees C).
- This is a forged billet, so there may be untreated layers of metal on the edges. This is not a defect.
