Mokume-gane, or "wood-eye metal," is a labor intensive an old world Japanese metal smithing technique similar to Damascus steel.
It involves layering different colored metals together then using heat and pressure to cause the metals to fuse together.
Once fused the piece is carved into a topography and flattened to create the beautiful patterns.
This is a really great billet. However I’d like to see smaller and tighter patterns in the metal.
